By the mid twentieth century, most people were shooting their family pictures with kodak. Each kodak printer needed to be calebrated and standardized before photos were printed on it. The printers came with something called a shirley card, which was a color reference card created by kodak in the 19 fifties. Once the printers were set, they'd start feeding film into the machines, cranking out hundreds of rolls a day.
