St. Augustine, Spain - A Brief History
The town had always been laid out as a simple grid with a central plaza and a church. The buildings were generally wood and thatch, vulnerable to fire. But after 17 20 the officers and merchants of the town start to replace these wooden houses with large houses in a distinctive local style. They build them with thick walls of cocina stone, which are then covered over with white paint or stucco.
