The History of the Police
First known use of the phrase police officer dates to 17 94. The first formal use of the word in reference to an organized law enforcement agency is from 17 98, when london created the marine police. And that's roughly where i'll leave off. I won't focus mainly on britain and north america, where these different strands of history and law and custom came together to give birth to what we know as the police.
