Johnson's Misgivings About Shakespeare
There are clues that johnson, in many ways, really looked down on shakespeare and didn't particularly like or admire him as a person. And he sees shakespeare as brilliant and talented, but also hasty and sloppy. So if we put the available evidence together, it seem that johnson really had a lot of misgivings about sh Shakespeare. But none the less, the power of his writings insured that his iconict is would only continue to grow.
