The Anthropic Principle

We live on the Earth because it is one of the few places in the solar system where life conform. The other planets are just too cold or too hot, and they don't have a suitable ocean for life to form. So this is what we call the anthropic principle. It's not deeply philosophical and full of mysticism or anything else. If the universe is very big and very diverse and contains many, many places where life cannot exist, then we will simply wind up being in the kind of place where it can exist.
