Some people in liberal societies are going to be maximally self-creating, right? Their model of life is, you know, I want to go and have all the experiences in the world. The goal of a liberal society is not to create as many people as possible who live those kinds of lives. And perhaps you should think twice about whether that is really exactly how you want to lead your life.

Sohrab Ahmari is a writer, commentator, and the founding editor of Compact. He is the author of Tyranny, Inc.: How Private Power Crushed American Liberty–and What to Do About It.
