The Metropolitan Museum of Art's Plan to Return 15 Sculptures to India
Subash Kapoor was convicted of running an international smuggling ring. Items he smuggled wound up in the collections of some major museums. The Met has been communicating with the Department of Homeland Security about works that may be connected to Kapoor since 2015. A couple of the pieces that were announced as being returned over the last few months are items that had been looted from their countries of origin during wars or other periods of unrest within the last couple of decades.
