Introduction

In 18 72, irish author sheridan le fanu published his nevella carmilla. Carmilla told the story of a young woman preyed upon by a female vampire. 100 years later, in cinemar, the lesbian vam r became almost as prolific an archetype as count dracula himself. By the early 19 seventies, hammer films had already produced several dracula films, so then turned their attention to carmillas. With this steamy new trilogy of films, it was clear that both hammer horror and the vampire sub jumbra were entering a bold new era.
