The Roosevelt Doctrine: The Alpha Creditor of the Western Hemisphere

Theodore Roosevelt's corollary to the Monroe Doctrine is that the US doesn't just prevent Europe from getting involved in Latin America, but militarily intervene. Americans had a real interest in a trans-ismian canal since I think really stretching back into the mid 19th century. And so when he learns about a revolution that's brewing in Panama, he basically doesn't do a lot to stop it.
