makes sense yeah so you said that this is now coming in the new standards and I guess we're looking at another seven years then until it's sort of widely adopted or like I guess venues and businesses who want to you know if you're a mall and you want to have people be able to find businesses you probably would want upgrading and working well the best thing about this is that Wi-Fi 6 is already widely deployed
Speaker 2
it's been rolling out over the last two years
Speaker 1
this is actually done and
Speaker 2
so so it's done at so you can think of the radios as being part of a built from two layers the phy layer and the mac layer so the phy layer is fundamentally encodes the signals are that you you transmit and you receive and so that's very important and so that's all out there because that's the hard part that's the part that's difficult to replace but the other layers that are built on top of this are in the mac which are firmware so even if an access point doesn't support az today if it's Wi-Fi 6 it potentially with an upgrade over the ethernet over the over the network can can support it and so that's what we're expecting will happen so this is why it may not take seven years it may just take you know a couple of years for vendors to decide that they want to do this that's
Speaker 4
great all
Speaker 3
right so if I can try to summarize from the app developer perspective here don't scan use diffuse location provider interface and there's a new get current location issue use instead yep is there anything to say about sort of you know background and we always get complaints right that we're sort of shutting things down and making things harder for developers yeah actually there's one more thing if we're I know we're wrapping up so I want to get one more plug in for app developers so um
Speaker 1
battery saver mode that's another one as a developer that if you go back a couple of years ago if users turn on battery server mode they're trying to save their battery one thing we used to do is just shut off like the screen is off locations off that used to be the default up until about three four years ago one thing that we began switching is we realized that doesn't work if you're a fitness app let's say you're a fitness user and you got the thing in your backpack and the screen is off you're trying to save power by leaving the screen off your fitness doesn't work so all a lot of app developers were just like tell people to turn battery saver off mode off if they're if they're in a fitness app or a nav app well we change the default you can call an API to check to be like what mode is it in where if you have a foreground service you're doing like a fitness app or navigation we won't shut that off um we shut off background location in battery saver mode but if you're doing a foreground thing like fitness you no longer have to tell your users to you know please turn off battery saver mode you want them to leave battery saver mode on because they're desperate for it if they if they're using it they really want to save their battery no need to scare them and turning it off they can have good battery life and they can still get their fitness track done they can go for a really long bike ride or whatever they're gonna do and it'll still work on their Android phone if you kind of follow the new standards for battery saver mode so look that
Speaker 3
up i see and that's for battery save mode i'm assuming not extreme battery same i feel like we have two now right like there's there's one that it's like you know that shuts off all apps too right except for a few yeah i i don't know what
Speaker 1
happens in extreme battery saver but regular battery saver i think maybe even extreme it's like again navigation might be the last thing you're doing you're like i'm i'm almost out of battery i don't have a charger i'm trying to get home yeah turn the screen off as a user but it'll still say turn left turn right so you can make it or to a place of safety potentially right you may be trying to get somewhere safe right so we want like we want to make sure that if you're doing that foreground navigation and you're trying to get there we we can at least keep that part going maybe the screen doesn't run maybe the graphics don't update as well but
Speaker 3
we'll tell you home safely yes all right it's a good uh note to end on thank
Speaker 1
you so much thank you tara thank you
