The Rise and Fall of Yoshida

Yoshida was able to maneuver his younger protege Ikeda Hayato into the prime ministership. He reached out to fellow politicians and Japanese people at large with a program of economic growth. In fact, the average household income doubled not by 1970, but by 1967. Yoshida would die seven years later in 1967.
