oxford had a sample of fleming's mould on hand. The team started working with it in 19 39. Six women were paid two pounds a week to tend to the fermenting mould. All eight mice were injected with strapta cacus bacteria, then four of the mice were injections with penacilin and the other four left untreated. Four untreated mice died, but the other four who got penecelin all survived.
