The batan peninsula is a wonderful place to retreat for all sorts of reasons. If you control it and the bone in the throat fortified little, teeny island of corregidor, you control manila bay. In addition to the heavy jungle, there's not one, but two volcanoes in this space. That's something like 15 by 30 miles, or 20 by 25 miles. They take up a huge chunk of the real estate in this area that will be defended.
