The Importance of Buffers and Timing
I don't see it as an either or. If timing overhead is not worth it for your system, if it's too much, don't track it and buffers are useful. I'm never in a situation where it's a choice one or the other. Maybe you should enable both and have sampling. But I just don't have seen that be a practical question ever.
