For 24 years, we had virtually no federal funding to talk or study firearms as a public health problem. That dates back to 19 96, when the infamous dickye amendment was passed. This is an issue of federally funded political advocacy. It is not a public health reat this is not a statement on firearms per se, but rather an identification that there is risk.
