The Language of Trauma in Samoa
In some cultures the language for trauma as we think of it doesn't really exist Langie Pueva-Sherrall Jackson helps us understand how trauma is processed in her culture. We don't have a word for trauma in Samoan and in a way that translates to the way we deal with trauma in that we deal with it with humor. When you're writing for an international audience who should be sympathizing or who should be made to be aware of the seriousness of the situation relaying those human stories is not necessarily the best way to report the climate story from the Pacific.
