During this second age, people were infants for the first 500 years of their lives. Humankind was dense, violent, and imperceptive. Zeus made them out of ash trees, kind of monstrous and heavy; all they cared about was fighting and war. So this violent race perished in bloodshed and civil wars,. Not a single name survived from it. The age of heroes, the fourth age, had passed. Then came a fifth age, the age of iron, Hesiod's age. Hesiod doesn't have anything good to say about it.
