The Role of Steroids in COPD Treatment
The first RCT published in 1999 only had 56 participants. Despite improvement in FEV1 and shorter length of stay, patient outcomes didn't change six weeks down the line. Steroids reduce the risk of treatment failure by about 50%. But again, mortality and ICU length of stay aren't going to get changed.
