When Amazon was first started, the internet had grown 2300X from the previous year in terms of the amount of traffic that flowed through it. It takes these crazy dislocations between existing markets and existing products for this chasm to open up. If you're a pessimist about things, you're not going to make outsized returns because if you're betting that something's going down, the most it can go down to is zero. The right sort of tenacious entrepreneurs can go in and rearrange the world as they see fit.
