The Red Lined Maps - Is That Right?
The original home owner's programme actually, legally was not allowed to discriminate. They just created this set of standards by which all these private lenders then came in afterwards. And they started discriminating pretty systhemically. The green or blue parts of the maps where federal financing enabled those property values to rise. Red parts of o the map were usually neighborhoods of color, people of color, that banks would not underwrite to because those ones were not backed byFederal programmes. So what that created was this racial disparity in wealth between people and households that owned homes in teno.
