Nostradomis - A Traveling Apothecary
At the time, many women practised as apothecaries. And this was a time when being a physician meant being male. So old fashioned, patriarchal attitudes may have been behind the craft of these female hailersbeing seen as lesser than that of university trained doctors. There was also a perception that travelling apothecary were the sixteenth century equivalent of snake oil salesmen. This is apparently what nostradomis was doing between te years of 15 21 and 15 29.
