A lot of times, if you just sort of ask them a question that they're not used to, it allows them to almost critically think for a brief moment. That's one of the things too that Stephen Hassan talks about in his book. A person has their authentic self, but then they're given the cult identity, which sort of suppresses their authentic self identity.
