Moto X was the first time we had voice recognition on an Android phone that well and truly just worked. It took until this year for Apple to remove the word Hey from Siri so that you could just activate it using Siri. I don't know if most people want to ask their phone to do things more than once or twice a day. And most of the time it's send mom a text message and saying, Hey, G to that is not a big encumbrance.
