The Effect of Guidelines on Critical Appraisal
In cardiology, one of the drivers of using low value care and not doing good critical appraisal is that things get into guidelines. So do you have the same problem in oncology? Yes. And that's the root of the problem, which is that guidelines and the meeting are not controlled by the average doctor in the field. It's controlled by the key opinion leaders. Those key opinion leaders are very tight with the companies. They have very strong professional interests to keep the companies happy. But now come on, they have disclosure slides. I guess I'd say disclosure in studies by SA from NYU School of Business has been shown to only increase trust in the person with the conflict.
