The Uneasy Truce Between the Surrender and the Formal Surrender
Time zones of planet Earth played a major role in how things proceeded or not. The last combats on the day occurred about two o'clock in the afternoon, due to some Japanese pilots who either chose to ignore the Emperor's capitulation or did not believe it and proceeded anyway. But over the next two or three days, there were sporadic events, including the interceptions of two photo recon flights in the Tokyo area by US bombers from Okinawa that were casualties on both sides. In Manchuria, the Soviet offensive continued with daily ground combat up until almost the end of the month.
