The Relationship Between Structure and Symptoms in Osteoarthritis

Plain film x-rays are not necessarily going to rule out anything else for someone who's had a short course of symptoms and radiographs are insensitive to the earliest stages of osteoarthritis. In addition there's a so-called structure symptom discordance in osteoarth arthritis wherein some people have a lot of symptoms and very little to show for it on the x-ray or the x-rays look terrible and they don't have very many symptoms. So for you know all of these reasons there is no compelling reason for obtaining imaging to make a diagnosis of osteOarthritis.
