The liberal supreme court of the fifties, sixties and early seventies understood that the constitution is a document that can be read flexibly. The conservatives reacted by strategically embracing like this rigid, inflexible vision of the constitution which gave them a framework to reject not just abortion rights, but progressive goals entirely. And have spent nearly 50 years gas light us all about it,. right in tearing at rove wade's foundations.
