Children Need to Experience Responsiveness
When children experience distress, it triggers their attachment behaviors. If the parent or caregiver is dealing with adit nor spousal abuse or mental health issues, they may have a lot more difficulty having the energy and ability to be attentive to the individual. Children need to experience empathy and validation. We want to help them start learning how to regulate their emotions. And we call that up regulation, or just regulation, if you will.
