The Negative Connotation of Constraints

The rules of chess are a very productive set of constraints. The idea that you have to drive on the left side of the road in India allows for traffic to move more freely. We can choose to not conform to these constraints, unlike physical laws. And cultural constraints represent knowledge too. Gender norms can help men and women engage in productive relationships but gender roles may include many mistaken constraints.
