The History of Breakfast
Muffins and scones were a status symbol when they first arrived on the American breakfast table. Abigail Adams: Muffins started showing up in the 1830s, 40s, 50s with the invention of the cook stove. She said women who had cook stoves were very interested in showing their gentility by serving muffins. And so you start to see a movement from people who had been eating griddle cakes,. but you start to hear now quick breads on the breakfast table.
