Genom Duplication

Mutations can happen with a lower chance of causing negative effects by deleting a function. You have higher chances of mutation sticking around, because that animal's not going to die when it mutates. And then you get to crazy stuff like genom duplication. This is ridiculously common among plants. Plants really like doing they do this all the time. It is typically an error while splitting a cell, specifically splitting for a germ cell.
