The Germans undeniably won the war in the air, at least from a numbers perspective. Germany lost just under 28,000 planes in the First World War but this is compared to well over 88,000 planes lost by the Allies. The end of the war didn't slow down the advancement of aviation. It did, however, mean a change in focus from military to civilian use of aircraft. Aircraft design developed and improved very rapidly with many new features being added that allowed them to fly for longer distances.
