These days trends are less about mini skirts and skinny ties, but social language. An outfit is a sentence that says "this is what I'm doing today" You can tell subtly even if you don't overtly name it, if a jacket is sort of work wear looking or western looking or biker looking. It's also why something totally new on a runway looks ridiculous to the point where it almost doesn't register.
