The Wizard of Menlo Park
In 1878, Edison is invited to Washington to demonstrate his various devices in front of the National Academy of Sciences and Congress. President Rutherford B. Hayes drags the first lady from her bed to come and see. He now sets about perfecting the incandescent light bulb - a bulb that uses electricity to heat up a filament until it glows. It is slow work, though, and he misses his promised deadline.
