In the 1930s, a man named Max Clyber systematized some data on metabolic rate. If you plotted something on metabolic rate of organisms from a mouse to a whale on a graph versus their size, it wasn't like that at all. The slope of this line, when plotted in this logarithmic way, was very, very close to the number three quarters. And not only that, the slopes of all these lines was always a simple model of one quarter.
