Manowiel's Second Crusade

Manowiel had made two foolish decisions which contributed to the unfolding disaster. He defended William II by offering his daughters' handed marriage, only to then withdraw her when a better offer materialised. Then he doubled down on the danger when he arrested all the Venetians' residents in Byzantium. With one stroke he'd shattered relations with the one power that could block the Norman fleet from crossing the Adriatic. It was the same excuse that Robert Giscard had used back in 1081.
