The Effects of Social Media Use on Leisure Reading

According to a survey from late 2019 to early 2020 by the National Assessment of Educational Progress, the percentages of nine and 13 year olds who said that they read for fun on their own time almost every day were at their lowest points since 1984. According to the 2021 Common Sense Census, on average, eight to 12 year olds use about 5 and a half hours of screen media per day while 13 to 18 year olds used about 8 and ahalf hours a day.
