Postoro and the Bear in Western Culture
In ancient europe, the bear was, it appear, from archaeological evidence, the object of some degree of cult activity. Collections of bear bones arranged by man have been found in such caves and bears feature in a variety of cave paintings. When we enter history, we see that the greeks embedded bears into myth. The goddess artemis had to bear as oher emblems. And paris, seducer of helen and cause of the trojan war, was raised by a she bear. This latter introduces what postoro examines from various angles as an underlying thread of bear stories in western culture. But here the reader sees postero's tendency to overreach from the evidence.
