The Challenge of Assisted Dying in Canada
I think what's most important is to contextualize in very, very broad strokes what happened in Canada because it's very unique on a global level. The Supreme Court of our country said in the Carter decision that if you were an adult who was suffering intolerably with a grievous and irimediable condition,. To have a blanket prohibition of any access, possibility to assisted dying was infringing on your charter rights. And so the changes in our law are not in fact an expansion of our law, but are inching back towards the original court decision.
