The German central bank could have saved the British pound but wasn't going to and that was a key part of the analysis. I would say the British pound had handed the ball to the dollar during the Great Depression in the 30s and through the in World War II. In other words it became unquestionably clear that it was the dollar regime after the British devaluation because the predecessor left what you might call the inner circle. The question is who's rising to the inner circle? Obviously the euro became a candidate as they consolidated many of the European countries into that currency.
