The mayor at the time was named nelius van wick lawrence. He came up with a radical idea to stop the fire in New York City. Blow up some of the buildings that are in the path ike see which the fire's going. The chief fire engineer of the city, he refused to do this and said it would be too dangerous. So eventually one man called James hamilton agreed to carry out the plan. Alexander Hamilton blew up his father's building as an act of revenge.
