Julius Caesar was elected preacher in 62 BC. Pontifex Maximus was chief high priest of the college of Pontiffs. He is lucky that a big fire or something didn't break out right after this and burn down Rome. During his time as general, he averted an attack on Spain by defeating rival tribes there.
