Harold Innis's Philosophy of Knowledge

harold innis was a communication scholar who first pointed out that what we think we know depends on what the available media of communication directs our attention to. Since his death in 19 52, he has been remembered as an historian with fundamental insight into canada's origins. To day, i think new readings are emerging to point to innis's distinctive philosophy of knowledge. Read this way, he's a model, not just of what to think, but of how to think. His emphasis on balance, paradox, diversity and self limitation seems to me to address our age's pressing need for a philosophy of limits.
