Peter and the Rock in the Gospels
The gospels are a little bit confusing because there's three layers. Jesus likely spoke in Aramaic, the lingua franca of his world. In Greek, it's just a little bit different because Greek nouns have a gender. The most literal translation is you are the rock and on this rock, I will build my church.
