Finitude Gives Our Lives Urgency
A clock is ticking in the back of our minds from an early age. Our decisions seem to matter because they cannot be remade. The vision of a species that has calcified into the same individuals forever with no renewal, no turnover, no children is ghastly. Why do you assume that a society, as opposed to an individual life would calcify and lack renewal turnover or children? Wouldn't people have children who would also live forever but produce more children and so on?
