The Athenians' Reorganization of the League
Some argue that the Athenians suffered a serious setback, but not a crippling disaster. They believed that the greater part of the original 200 ships had returned to Greece after the initial victory. This still large, but not as a disastrous of a defeat, would have had only a small effect on the Athenian's dominant control over their allies. It did lead them to carry out a general reorganization of the League, which had been weakened by revolts,. often inspired by the Persians, throughout the 450s BC. As a direct consequence, the Athenians would intensify their RK, or rule, by adopting harsher methods of control.
