Nitrous: A Less Ideal Anesthetic for Elevated ICP
I seem to remember nitrous as being taught as a less than ideal anesthetic for elevated ICP. It can raise increased intercranial blood flow and therefore potentially increase ICP. While there are good theoretical concerns, the practical data on it are that it doesn't seem to actually elevate ICP meaningfully in these settings. And thus, you know, I consider its benefits in terms of it being the most rapidly reversible agent that we have in armamentarium to outweigh those potential problems.
