The Role of the Boutie in Airway Management

Matt Sackler: The bougie has only been used as a rescue device for emergency intubations in US emergency departments. In the bean trial of 757 patients, they found the first past success was 96% when a bougie was used 87% when a stylate was used. He says it's not just the device that's important, it's the training with the device that is critical. They would like to see an increase in the first-past success rate with the bougie such that it would exceed the first- Past success rates with the stylate.
