Is the Overton Window a Race to the Bottom?

I think with every generation, there is a gradual shift in over the window, right? Like ideas which are not previously acceptable become more acceptable. The problem now is in the stretching of it from both ends, I think from all ends, right? And you do not know when it is going to break. So this is just a vague hope actually. But at least from an anecdotal sense, when I see people being more circumspect of the news that they were spreading earlier, it is some indication that we are rethinking what we talk about.
