The Difference Between Turkey and Ireland
Turkey emerged from under the yoke of an imperial power Britain after a national struggle. In Ireland many Irish people would go out and work for the British Empire colonizing other places. There's still a racial dimension of sort of Europeanness and whiteness even if they were sort of not British so there's a really complicated strands of colonialism and anti-colonialism in both places.
